Word documents are designed for editing. PDF documents are designed for distribution. When you send a .docx file to a client, recruiter, or colleague, the layout they see depends on which version of Word they have, which fonts are installed on their system, and what their default page settings are. A perfectly formatted resume can look broken on a different machine.

PDF (Portable Document Format) was designed by Adobe precisely to solve this problem. A PDF looks identical on every device and operating system — the fonts, spacing, images, and pagination are all embedded and locked. Converting to PDF before sending ensures the recipient sees exactly what you intended.

PDF is also the expected format for digital signatures, legal submissions, job applications, academic papers, invoice archives, and any document that needs to be preserved exactly as written. Converting your DOC to PDF is the standard final step before sharing any formal document.

The converter preserves the following elements from your DOC or DOCX file:

• ✓Fonts and typography: Heading styles, paragraph fonts, bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough are all retained. If the document uses embedded fonts, they are included in the PDF.
• ✓Tables: Table structure including cell borders, column widths, merged cells, and cell background colors is preserved. Complex multi-level tables may require a review pass after conversion.
• ✓Images and diagrams: Inline images and floating images are embedded in the PDF at their original resolution. Ensure your source images are at least 150 DPI for crisp print output.
• ✓Paragraph and page layout: Margins, page orientation (portrait/landscape), line spacing, and section breaks are honored in the PDF output.

Both DOC and DOCX are Microsoft Word formats, but they are architecturally different. DOC is the binary format used by Word 97 through Word 2003. DOCX is the XML-based Open Document format introduced in Office 2007 and used by all modern Word versions.

For conversion to PDF, always prefer DOCX. The DOCX format is a ZIP archive of XML files, which is much easier for converters to parse reliably. Binary DOC files require a more complex parsing pass and are more likely to produce minor formatting differences in the output. If you have an old .doc file, open it in Word or LibreOffice and save it as .docx before converting.
